It’s August and it’s raining, welcome to the UK. As we cancel our pub garden plans and set up shop with cups of tea on the sofa, when better time to watch other people fall in love on Netflix?

Yes, the romantic genre is back thanks to the streaming service with Netflix giving us some of the most exciting new romance films in years.

So find pals, loved ones or even some furry friends and cuddle up and swoon….

Set It Up:

A classic romantic comedy, Set It Up stars Zoey Deutch and Glen Powell as two interns whose bosses are workaholics and force them to stay late every night as well.

One night, an unexpected encounter over food delivery sees them decide to set up their bosses on a blind date and gets them some much-needed time out of the office as well but before you can say disaster, it all begins to backfire on them as their bosses grow closer, emotions became involved and unexpected feelings develop.

Robin Hood: Prince Of Thieves:

This 1991 classic is available on Netflix right now

This 1991 classic is available on Netflix right now so we’re not sure why you’re still reading this.

Starring Kevin Costner as Robin Hood and Alan Rickman in one of his most iconic roles ever, the film follows Robin as he robs from the rich and gives to the poor and all to Bryan Adams’ Everything I Do.

Romance, action, bad guys and English medieval history, what else do you want?

To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before:

Take one teenage girl, several crushes, the writing of love letters and a younger sister and it’s the recipe for a romantic comedy worthy of sitting alongside the 90s legends.

Based on Jenny Han’s novel, To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before stars Lana Condor, Noah Centineo and Israel Broussard, a sequel is coming in 2020.

The Kissing Booth:

If you want mindless but fun Netflix viewing

The Kissing Booth sits alongside the so-bad-it’s-good romance films you watched thanks to its reliance on cliches. (Looking at you, She’s All That.)

Regardless, if you want mindless but fun Netflix viewing, The Kissing Booth is perfect as it follows teenager Elle (played by Joey King), whose romance with high school senior and bad boy Noah (Jacob Elordi) puts her lifelong friendship with Noah’s younger brother Lee (Joel Courtney) in jeopardy.

Always Be My Maybe:

Ali Wong and Randall Park in Always Be My Maybe

This is one romantic comedy that takes all the est rom-com cliches and twists and layers them in new and exciting ways – plus it’s funny AF

Written by and starring Ali Wong and Randall Park, the pair are childhood friends who haven’t spoken in years but are bought back together by a faulty air conditioning unit.

Yep.

The film has a ridiculously high Rotten Tomatoes score (91%) and has been praised as true Asian-American representation.

Twilight:

We love romance against all odds

Hear us out. Released in 2008, Twilight was a little indie movie starring two unknowns who against all odds fall in love.

Sure, one of the characters is a vampire who sparkles in the sun and the other is a mopey teenage girl with one facial expression but it went on to spawn four sequels, billions of dollars in the box office and is to thank for every movie studio around the world dropping money on young adult fiction in the hopes of replicating the film’s success.

And also, we love romance against all odds – and who’s faced worse odds than a teenage girl and a vampire who’s been 17 for nearly 100 years?

When We First Met:

Combining twin tropes of romcom and time travel, When We First Net stars Adam Devine as a bloke who gets to spend the night with dream girl Avery (Alexandra Daddario) – only to be friend-zoned and spend years wondering why.

Until that is, he has the chance to head back in time and change the events of that night over and over again (like Groundhog Day but with romance.)

After:

After is fan fiction about Harry Styles falling in love with you

After is fan fiction about Harry Styles falling in love with you (but the character’s name is Hardin Scott).

If that’s not enough though, it follows college freshman Tessa who meets bad boy Hardin and falls for him, despite her boyfriend back in her home town.

After plays it pretty safe by doing what it says on the tin and giving us some typical rom-com tropes, but when you don’t want a film to break the mold After is perfect.

Notting Hill:

The quintessential romance film

The quintessential romance film.

Julia Roberts, Hugh Grant, that bookshop, and the iconic line: ‘I’m just a girl standing in front of a boy, asking him to love her.’

All are available to stream now on Netflix UK.
