Former Liverpool ace backs Reds to ‘embarrass’ Man Utd and put down a ‘massive marker'

Liverpool will put down a “massive marker” in the Premier League title race if they can pick up a comfortable win at Manchester United on Sunday, claims former Reds midfielder Don Hutchison.

Liverpool head to Old Trafford looking to extend their winning run in the league to 18 and equalling Manchester City’s record in the process.

Jurgen Klopp’s side are eight points clear at the top of the table as they look to win their first title since 1990.

Hutchison says Liverpool would happily take a 1-0 win over their rivals.

However, he says a heavier victory would make a statement to the rest of the league.

“People are trying to call them lucky but they’re not,” Hutchison told Premier League Productions.

“They’re in winning form, they’re in the groove at the moment.

“So I think they will be putting down a massive marker if they can go to Old Trafford, even if they win the game 1-0, Jurgen and Liverpool fans would take that now, if they put down a big marker and win it by three or four and really sort of embarrass Man United in their own back garden, that would harm them big time but it will certainly give Liverpool fans a push to think that this could be their year.

Meanwhile, former Everton midfielder Leon Osman says Liverpool manager Klopp has dilemmas over the makeup of his midfield for this weekend’s match against United.

“[Having a predictable line up is] generally the sign of a good team,” Osman said on The Analysis Show.

“The only selection dilemmas that Jurgen Klopp will make will be his choice of midfield.

“Will he make a couple of changes [against United]? Freshen things up.

“But the philosophy, the style, the way they play will all stay exactly the same.”
