Fleetwood Mac cancels Jazz Fest and remainder of tour as Stevie Nicks recovers from the flu

Fleetwood Mac cancels Jazz Fest and remainder of North American tour as Stevie Nicks recovers from the flu

Rock and roll legends, Fleetwood Mac, have canceled the remaining four shows of their North American tour in order to allow singer Stevie Nicks, 70, more time to recover from a bout of the flu.

Also among the cancellations: the band’s headliner spot at the New Orleans Jazz And Heritage Festival on May 2, that was added just days ago when the Rolling Stones dropped out due to Mick Jagger’s recent heart surgery.

‘As an update to previous Fleetwood Mac posts regarding a band member illness, Stevie Nicks has the flu,’ a representative began in a statement to Rolling Stone.

‘While she is feeling better already, management has consulted with her doctors and have decided to reschedule the remaining four shows of their North American tour to allow for her full recovery.’

The iconic group had already postponed shows in Boston and Philadelphia last week as part of their 50 date tour following Nicks’ induction and performance at the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame in New York City.

‘We are having more fun than ever on this current tour, but as we all know, touring life comes with its challenges,’ drummer Mick Fleetwood added in a statement.

‘The flu has sidelined Stevie for a couple of weeks but she is on the mend and we look forward to getting back out on the road. We so apologize to the fans, but we are working on rescheduling.’

The band rep says sports playoffs and existing touring commitments in Europe and Australia have made it difficult to reschedule shows in a timely manner.

The likely scenario is that canceled gigs in Boston, Philadelphia, Toronto, Winnipeg, Edmonton and Calgary will like be made up in October/November of 2019.

Ticketholders are expected to receive new dates and details shortly.

So far the Jazz Fest festival has not announced a replacement for the headlining spot.

Fleetwood Mac’s current lineup of the band includes mainstays Nicks, Fleetwood, John McVie and Christine McVie.

Nicks’ longtime collaborator, Lindsey Buckingham, was fired from the group last year amid disagreements about the tour.

He was replaced with Crowded House leading man Neil Finn and ex-Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers guitarist/songwriter Mike Campbell.
