(Reuters) – Fitbit Inc will collaborate with the Singapore government on a health initiative that involves the use of its fitness trackers, the company said on Wednesday.
The agreement, beginning October, is to provide hundreds of thousands of consumers in Singapore with fitness trackers, CNBC reported earlier, sending shares of the company 8% higher in premarket trading.
Customers won’t pay anything for the device, but will commit to spending $10 a month for a year of premium service, the report said.
“This is Fitbit’s first major integration of a digital health platform and wearables into a national public health program globally,” the company said.
