Team Rating

PSG receive an unsurprising five-star rating on FIFA 20, made up by an 87 attack, 85 midfield and 83 defence.

Starting Lineup & Formation

PSG’s default formation is a very aggressive 4-3-3 attack, and you may as well stick with the system. Against top quality opposition in the Champions League, switch to a more balanced 4-2-3-1.

A tempting alternative would be another formation PSG have used under Thomas Tuchel – the 4-2-2-2 wide. That would allow Kylian Mbappe to get higher up the pitch and cause even more havoc.

New signing Keylor Navas (90 GK Reflexes) is a reliable man in between the sticks, with the back four made up by Thomas Meunier, rock solid Marquinhos (87 standing tackle), veteran captain Thiago Silva (88 standing tackle) and Juan Bernat.

Summer arrival from Everton Idrissa Gueye parterns the dogged Marco Verratti (90 short passing) in defensive midfield, whilst superstar Neymar (95 ball control) takes up the number 10 role.

The classy Angel Di Maria (94 agility) is out the right wing, with speedster Kylian Mbappe (96 acceleration) out on the left and marksman Edinson Cavani (93 attacking positioning) through the middle.

On the bench go for Sergio Rico (OVR 77), Presnel Kimpembe (OVR 82), Abdou Diallo (OVR 79), Ander Herrera (OVR 82), Pablo Sarabia (OVR 83), Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting (OVR 76) and Mauro Icardi (OVR 85).

Tactics and instructions

PSG have the personnel to destroy teams on the counter, but you must expect that the overwhelming majority, if not all, sides in Ligue 1 will sit deep against the champions.

Therefore you must move the ball quickly when you get into the attacking third and use the individual qualities of the front four to unlock the defence.

PSG’s lineup is very attacking, and if you left their instructions as if, you would be highly vulnerable on the counter-attack.

For your full backs, you should alter their attacking runs to “balanced attack” so they don’t always go charging forward.

The big call comes in midfield. With the front four not known for their defending, you should change Marco Verratti’s and Idrissa Gueye’s attacking support to “stay back while attacking”. If you do feel you lack a midfield option in attack, then adjust your attacking game plan to include one of them.

Neymar’s instructions are already very aggressive with “stay forward” and “free roam”, but you will want someone with his quality in the box also. Adjust his support on crosses to “get into box for cross”.

Kylian Mbappe looks to be your most deadly attacking talent so you will want him in goalscoring positions. Utilise his pace by altering his support runs to “get in behind” and support on crosses to “get into box for cross”.

Training

In your training sessions, look to use players with the promising player tag to make the most out of your time. At PSG, this includes Kylian Mbappe, Leandro Paredes, Presnel Kimpembe, Thilo Kehre, Abdou Diallo and Colin Dagba.

The Transfer Market

Starting transfer budget: £120 million

Starting wage budget: £522,000 a week

Who should go

Despite bringing in the likes of Keylor Navas, Abdou Diallo, Idrissa Gueye, Pablo Sarabia, Ander Herrera and Mauro Icardi over the summer, it’s still not a massive squad PSG have to play with. Those signings should open up one or two sales from the first team however.

Layvin Kurzawa should be the first man to be shown the door, with the French international losing his place in the first team to Juan Bernat last season. In the final year of his contract you should only collect £7 million for the left back, but that will free up £51,000 a week in wages.

The other first teamer on the sales list would be forward Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting, who is way out of his depth at PSG. Sell the former Stoke man for £7 million, saving £60,000 a week in wages.

Other departures include young goalkeeper Marcin Bulka and left back Mitchel Bakker, who should collect a combined £1.3 million, saving you £11,000 a week from your wage budget.

Loans

Given the gulf in class between the first team and the reserves, there are plenty of candidates to send out on loan from PSG, but don’t leave your squad too thin. There will be heaps of opportunities to blood in these youngsters in Ligue 1, so only loan out one or two.

With a new right back likely to be on the cards, you can loan out Colin Dagba for the season, with other contenders being Tanguy Kouassi, Adil Aouchiche and Arnaud Kalimundo.
