Fans of AMC’s Fear the Walking Dead can expect an explosive season five as the survivors face their deadliest threat yet.
With The Walking Dead crossover star Dwight (played by Austin Amelio) set to make his Fear the Walking Dead debut, fans seemingly have everything to look forward to in season five.
Well, they did until showrunners Ian Goldberg and Andrew Chambliss revealed a whole new surprise inclusion.
Could Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) be set to join Dwight and crossover from The Walking Dead?
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, the pair revealed the new inclusion could be close to Rick landing in his helicopter.
Ian spoke about what season five holds in store: “We ended season four with our group coming together and rallying behind this shared mission of helping people out in the world, and that was a mission that we saw come together over the course of season four with people like Madison and Polar Bear.
“It was about seeing our group of characters come together, this unlikely family, and using those philosophies that Madison and Polar Bear began in their own ways and using them to go forward and to help people out in the world, both as a way to make up for the bad things that our characters had done, and also just a way to make the world a little bit better.
“That’s where we left season four, and when we come in in season five it is a couple months later, and we’re going to see how that help mission has been going for our group.
“We’re going to come in right in the middle of one of these help missions, and we’re going to see that the group has gone to some pretty extreme measures to carry out their goals to help someone in need.
“It’s going to take them to an entirely new and strange and dangerous environment that they’ve never been to before. It may involve a plane, and we’re going to see the difficulties that their mission presents, but also the internal things that our characters are dealing with that are maybe preventing them from fully living.
“That’s where we start the season, and those are the things that we’re going to be exploring.”
So a plane is set to appear in Fear the Walking Dead world.
Who or what will be on that plane and what trouble will they bring the Fear team?
Meanwhile, details about Dwight’s return have been teased by the pair as well.
Ian also revealed to Entertainment Weekly that Dwight is set to face up to his past in season five.
He was last seen in season eight of The Walking dead when he was sent away from the community by Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus).
In season five, he is set to run into Morgan Jones (Lennie James) who may be able to rescue him from the threat of nuclear Walkers.
Morgan is a fellow crossover star after joining in season four and could help Dwight survive in Texas.
The survivors in Fear the Walking Dead do not stay in one place for long, which means they could come across Dwight on the road.
Morgan and Dwight could come across each other on one of the major roadways and this is how Dwight will be integrated into the team.
Fear the Walking Dead returns to AMC on June 2 and AMC UK the following day.
