Morgan Jones was shot in the chest by Virginia and left for dead with walkers approaching him on Sunday’s season five finale of Fear The Walking Dead.

‏Virginia shared the information with Morgan [Lennie James] who had secured medical attention for Grace as part of the deal to join the Pioneers.

Morgan then sat on the front steps of a church bleeding heavily and spoke into his radio.

‘If any of you are hearing this … just live,’ Morgan said.

The 74-minute finale then ended with the seemingly imminent death of the central character who had crossed over from The Walking Dead.

The season finale titled End Of The Line opened with Dwight [Austin Amelio] running solo in the woods.

He stumbled and then heard his wife Sherry on the radio.

‘Honey, is that you?,’ he asked before throwing the radio to the ground in frustration.

He then came across the remains of the convoy and hid under a vehicle as horses approached.

Dwight discovered the horses had no riders.

‘Where’d you come from boy,’ he said while taking the reins of a horse.

‘You just saved my life,’ he added.

Morgan back at Humbug’s Gulch was on the radio asking Virginia for help.

‘That Gulch is one of the biggest settlements I ever came across, 263 souls,’ Virginia told him.

She claimed that their ‘crackpot of a leader’ refused her offer of help and he ‘made the wrong call’.

‘I’m just glad you’re making the smart one, Morgan’ Virginia said.

Morgan wanted assurances that all 40 of them would be kept together, but Virginia said she had to do what she thought was best for the ‘817 people thriving under my auspices’.

‘You won’t be together anymore, but you will be alive,’ Virginia said after Morgan agreed to her help.

‘I’m sorry,’ Morgan told the group.

She was resigned to the fact that Virginia would leave her behind due to her sickness.

The whole group looked glum until Dwight returned with the horses and a glimmer of hope.

‘I think we can make it work here,’ Dwight said.

‘Don’t you know what this means?,’ Dwight said referencing the horses. ‘If they’re alive, there’s water nearby. We could make it work here. We don’t need her.’

Alicia Clark [Alycia Debnam-Carey], Daniel Salazar [Ruben Blades], John Dorie [Garret Dillahunt], Morgan and Dwight tried to hold back walkers at Humbug’s Gulch, but they were vastly outnumbered.

Morgan then spotted a billboard of cowboys herding cattle and a scheme was devised.

A crew set off on horseback to herd the walkers away from the Western-style theme park with a plan to corral and unleash them on Virginia.

Daniel and Victor Strand [Colman Domingo] were on surveillance duty to provide a signal when Virginia arrives.

Strand admitted that he thought they should consider joining Virginia’s group.

‘She is not giving us a choice. That is all we need to know,’ Daniel said.

They spotted Luciana Galvez [Danay Garcia] among Virginia’s group and Daniel aborted the mission to unleash the herd.

Dwight after jumping from his horse tried to sacrifice himself to lead the walkers away.

He vowed that he couldn’t let them fall under Virginia’s rule, but Morgan, John and June [Jenna Elfman] rode to his rescue.

They lured the walkers behind them and then waded into the river with their horses.

The walkers were washed away as they made it to the other side of the river bank.

The group without their secret weapon knew they had to turn themselves over to Virginia.

‘We still have a little time left. Let’s live life the way we said we were gonna,’ Morgan said.

Their barn wedding featured Dwight gifting them with wedding rings.

They were married by rabbi Jacob Kessner [Peter Jacobson] and serenaded by Daniel and Grace singing End Of The Line by Traveling Wilburys.

It was a shotgun wedding of sorts as Virginia soon arrived and June still in her wedding dress grabbed a rifle.

She told them that Victor informed them of the ‘little stunt’ they tried to pull against her.

‘We asked for your help and we’re going to take it,’ Morgan said as he demanded she take all of them.

Virginia said he wasn’t in a position to be making demands, but Morgan said all of them alive were ‘priceless’.

‘Anything else will be a problem,’ Morgan said.

Virginia agreed and began separating the group into different vehicles destined for encampments.

John and June were separated on their wedding night as Grace and Morgan finally shared their feelings for each other while saying farewell.

‘We can do more damage from the inside,’ Strand assured Alicia after admitting to working with Virginia to curry favor with her.

Morgan was the last person left at the theme park and asked Virginia where she was going to take him.

‘You get to stay here, Morgan. You see? Gotta protect the future,’ Virginia said as she drew a gun on him.

Morgan then whipped his staff around and struck Virginia in the face as she fired off a round that struck him in the upper chest.

They both stumbled on the ground and Virginia lost her gun, but picked up another one.

She cocked the gun and pointed it at Morgan’s head as he looked up.

‘I just resent your face so much,’ Virginia said before she fired point-blank.

The gun, however, misfired and Virginia then got the news that Grace was pregnant.

Virginia chuckled and Morgan noted that Virginia was wrong about there being ‘no future’ for their group.

‘You were wrong,’ he said.

‘I do hope you die, but that’s not the point anymore. I hope you heard me,’ Virginia told him.

She then left Morgan for dead as he was bleeding with walkers lurching toward him.

‘If any of you are listening, if any of you can hear me, what we were doing out here, it wasn’t just about doing right,’ Morgan said breathing heavily.

‘It was about the future. We fought for the future. We made the hard call. For her. For, for all of us. So, Grace, if you’re listening to me. …live. All of you … if you can hear me …just live,’ Morgan said as the growl of nearby walkers grew louder.
