Normal People star Paul Mescal has reportedly quit Instagram after reading the comments on his posts ‘became a drain’

The actor’s account, which had racked up over a million followers thanks to everyone falling in love with him in the BBC drama, has vanished from the website, and it is unknown when he deleted it.

According to The Sun, Paul decided to jack it in because he didn’t want to get sucked in to the comments – and we can relate if we’re being honest.

A source told the publication: ‘Paul deactivated his Instagram account because it just became a drain.

‘He felt like he was wasting time on there, reading the comments is no good for anyone’s mental health.’

They added that Paul ‘is a private guy’ and ‘doesn’t feel the need to share everything online’.

‘There are more important things going on in his life and he wants to focus his energy into his personal life and his work, he doesn’t need social media for that,’ they said, hinting that the star could return to the platform in future.

Some of Paul’s Instagram posts included a lovely picture of him suited and booted in Louis Vuitton at home for the virtual Emmy Awards last year.

Chilling out on the stairs, he called the occasion ‘nuts’ and wished the fellow stars in the category for lead actor in a limited series of movie the best of luck.

The award went to Mark Ruffalo in the end, but his family were on hand to keep his chin up as his they called him a ‘loser’ afterwards (in a loving way of course).

Paul’s Twitter account is currently still up so he could always update there at some point, however his last tweet was in August 2020.

Metro.co.uk has contacted Paul’s camp for comment.
