Fans have continued to defend Scarlett Moffatt’s The British Tribe Next Door documentary following ongoing backlash.

The series follows the former Gogglebox star and her family as they relocate to the Namibian desert to live among the Himba tribe for a month, with the family bringing a complete replica of their home to the nation.

However, the docuseries has proven to be controversial, with fans branding it ‘patronising to another culture’ and ‘poverty porn’ – and one arguing that the show ‘nurtures an old-fashioned view of the global south’.

Scarlett even defended the documentary herself in an interview on This Morning before the first episode aired, telling hosts Ruth Langsford and Eamonn Holmes that the tribe ‘wouldn’t have seen how we live’ if it wasn’t for the series.

And as the second instalment of the series was broadcast tonight, many fans have continued to defend Scarlett and her family despite the ongoing backlash.

‘Tired of people complaining about #TheBritishTribeNextDoor no one has forced you to watch it,’ a concerned fan said on Twitter.

‘Nobody is exploiting anyone. All I see is Scarlett’s loving family fitting into the loving new tribe.

‘She hasn’t been condescending or belittle them in any way whatsoever.’

‘I don’t get why the usually offended are up in arms about this,’ another questioned.

‘The Namibians come across excellently and are enjoying themselves.’

‘I don’t see why people are complaining about #thebritishtribenextdoor I actually really enjoyed watching it and the Himba tribe are beautiful and happy people,’ one fan chimed in.

‘We could learn a lot from them. Please think outside the box!’

However, others found it divisive and ‘rubbish’.

One dubbed it: ‘The most patronising thing to another culture.’

In tonight’s episode, we saw Scarlett continue to bond with the tribe, as one member even confessed to being in a polyamorous relationship, having both a husband and a boyfriend, which Scarlett confessed was a ‘culture shock’ to her.

A preview for next week’s instalment also sees Scarlett’s nan comes to visit, as she gets her first taste of life with the African tribe.

The British Tribe Next Door continues next Tuesday (5 November) on Channel 4.
