FA Cup draw LIVE: Manchester United, Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea learn their fate

League One Shrewsbury have been handed a dream trip to Chelsea in the FA Cup fifth round if they can find a way past Premier League leaders Liverpool.

The Shrews fought back to draw 2-2 with the Reds on Sunday and will be heading for Stamford Bridge if they can pull off an even bigger shock in the replay.

Holders Manchester City are also on their travels having been paired with Championship side Sheffield Wednesday, while derby rivals Manchester United face a trip to the winners of the replay between Northampton and Derby.

Oxford’s reward for a replay victory over top-flight Newcastle would be a trip to Championship leaders West Brom, while fellow League One side Portsmouth will face Premier League opposition at Fratton Park after Bournemouth and Arsenal resolve fourth-round matters.

Southampton or Tottenham will play host to top-flight basement boys Norwich, while either Coventry or Birmingham face a short trip to Leicester.

Championship sides Reading and Cardiff will battle it out for the chance to welcome in-form Sheffield United to their own stadium.

For Manchester United fans there was finally something to celebrate as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side thrashed Tranmere Rovers 6-0 at Prenton Park. However, as our chief football writer Miguel Delaney reports, the likelihood of any star names joining the club in January are quickly fading:

Jurgen Klopp once again expressed his anger at Liverpool’s congested fixture schedule after being forced into a fourth-round replay by Shrewsbury and promised to “play the kids” at Anfield. However, despite such complaints largely being reserved for ‘big clubs’, Klopp found an unlikely sympathiser in his opposite number Sam Ricketts:

I fully understand Liverpool’s position, they are fighting on all fronts for trophies and every three days they are there to get shot at. This was our cup final and we will have another one at Anfield, whereas for Liverpool it is just another day.

I understand that point of view. They are fighting for the Premier League, fighting for the Champions League and at some point those players need a rest. I can’t read too much into it, we’ll see nearer the time.

Arsenal face Bournemouth in the final fourth-round tie shortly after the draw concludes this evening and Eddie Nketiah will have a chance to impress after Mikel Arteta decided against re-loaning the striker. He leads the line for the first time since January last year, while 18-year-old Gabriel Martinelli also starts.

Teddy Sheringham and Glen Johnson will be in charge of tonight’s draw.

Pot numbers

So with little over half-an-hour until the draw gets underway, here are the teams remaining:

1 Manchester United
2 Chelsea
3 Southampton or Tottenham Hotspur
4 Sheffield Wednesday
5 AFC Bournemouth or Arsenal
6 Northampton Town or Derby County
7 Leicester City
8 Sheffield United
9 Reading or Cardiff City
10 West Bromwich Albion
11 Norwich City
12 Coventry City or Birmingham City
13 Manchester City
14 Newcastle United or Oxford United
15 Portsmouth
16 Shrewsbury Town or Liverpool

Elsewhere, Tottenham will also have to face a return tie against Southampton after Sofiane Boufal’s late goal snatched a draw. However, holders Manchester City, Manchester United and Chelsea are all safely through.

Rumours has it Jason Cummins is still celebrating now after his late double denied Liverpool victory at New Meadow yesterday. Shrewsbury now have a replay to relish at Anfield, with Jurgen Klopp pledging to play his youngsters as he continues to take issue with a congested fixture schedule.
