Everything you need to know about the Riverdale spin-off starring Lucy Hale

The third season of Riverdale is drawing to a close, and if you’re wondering what life is going to look like without the hit Netflix show to binge watch, fear not: the Riverdale universe is expanding.

The CW officially confirmed on Tuesday that a brand new musical series, Katy Keene, developed by Riverdale and Chilling Adventures of Sabrina creator Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa is coming to our screens very soon.

The new series centres on the classic Archie Comics character Katy Keene, played by Pretty Little Liars star Lucy Hale. She’s a model, actress and singer, who has aspirations of becoming a fashion designer in New York City.

And, like all good female-centred stories set in the Big Apple, there’s a trio of besties on hand to support Katy on her way, including Josie McCoy from Riverdale (played by Ashleigh Murray) who is now in her 20s and pursuing her music career in the city.

According to Variety, Katy meets a range of “kindred-spirit starving artists” on her quest for stardom, including mysterious socialite Pepper Smith (Julia Chan), Broadway-bound performer Jorge Lopez and his drag queen alter-ego, Ginger (Jonny Beauchamp), as well as a pair of competitive twins named Alexandra and Alexander Cabot (Camille Hyde and Lucien Laviscount).

“While their climb to the top is rife with obstacles, this found family will stop at nothing to see their names in lights,” the official description reads.

Lucy shared the announcement on Twitter, posting a collage of images from the show alongside the caption: “KATY KEENE is officially picked up to series and I’m actually in tears. So excited about this next chapter. This show is all about hope and pursuing dreams and the friendships & relationships that bond it all. Actually can’t wait for you all to see this.”

Lucy also posted a headshot of her character to Instagram, sporting red lipstick and perfectly coiffed hair, asking followers to join the official account (she didn’t need to ask us twice).

There’s a little while yet until we see Katy in action, as the series is set to debut in Autumn. We reckon it’s going to be well worth the wait.
