Erling Haaland wins another award after record-breaking debut month at Borussia Dortmund

Erling Haaland has been awarded the Bundesliga Player of the Month award for his dazzling start to life at Borussia Dortmund– despite playing just 59 minutes.

The 19-year-old netted five times in his first two appearances for the German side after completing his transfer from Red Bull Salzburg.

Among them were a hat-trick on his debut against Augsburg, following that treble up with a brace in the win over Koln before the end of January to seal him the award.

Haaland has since notched a further four goals to take his overall tally to nine in six matches.

When asked by reporters he admitted he did not expect to get off to such a blistering start.

“To be honest, no, not like this,” Haaland said. “But you know, that’s how it is, and I’m happy about that.

“I’ve seen them [the goals] a lot, and when I see them I just want to do it again.”

Haaland had been linked with a host of elite European clubs before opting for Dortmund, including Man Utd and Juventus.

But a switch to Dortmund was seen as a wise move for the striker, due to their decent track record of developing young talent.

He has joined up with England winger Jadon Sancho, as well as a number of other top class players, whom Haaland has credited for helping him settle in so easily.

“You know, I’ve been here one month, but when my team is all so good, it gets easy sometimes to create chances and to play with them, because they’re so good,” he added.

“The first second I played with Jadon [Sancho], Marco [Reus], Thorgan [Hazard], you know these guys, it just sits direct, and that’s how it is with world-class players.”

Both Haaland and Sancho were on target in the 4-0 win over Eintracht Frankfurt on Saturday, which helps Dortmund keep pace with RB Leipzig and Bayern Munich ahead of them in the table.

Haaland is set to make his Champions League bow this week, as Dortmund welcome PSG to Signal Iduna Park on Tuesday.
