KEEPING the kids occupied inside while they are off school and the weather is awful is hard work.
But it need not be costly. There are plenty of purse-friendly activities you can sort out for them. Here are my top tips on how to enjoy a rainy half-term at home for less cash.
BAKE OFF: Why not bake the kids some tasty treats? You can’t go wrong with a batch of chocolate Rice Krispie cakes. All you need is Rice Krispies and chocolate of their choice. Get creative and mix melted white and milk chocolate together. Or, for a little less mess, you can get a Peppa Pig Muddy Puddle Cup Cake Mix for £1.35 at Tesco.
INDOOR CINEMA: Whether it’s the cost of a trip to the cinema or the ghastly weather that’s holding you back, there’s no reason why you can’t enjoy a film or two at home. Borrow one from a friend, or take a trip to a charity shop to pick one up at a bargain price. Turn off the lights, turn up the sound, sit back and relax. You could even buy a bag of corn seeds and make your own popcorn.
ARTS ’N’ CRAFTS: Children have the wonderful ability to turn a blank piece of paper into something magical. Embrace this and let their imagination run wild with some arts and crafts. The Works has a big bag of assorted craft materials for just £6, including googly eyes and pom pom balls.
FUN & GAMES: Keep your tots entertained with a new toy or two, which needn’t cost a lot. At The Entertainer prices have been slashed for the half-term. For example, you can get Poopsie Sparkly Critters collectible animals for £7.50, down from £15, or The Extreme 360 RC Stunt Double-Side Roll remote-control car for £15, down from £25. They will be occupied for hours.
