England boss Gareth Southgate set to unleash Jadon Sancho against Kosovo

GARETH SOUTHGATE will unleash wonderkid Jadon Sancho tonight.

Borussia Dortmund winger Sancho, 19, comes into the starting XI against Kosovo at St Mary’s as England look to continue their perfect start in Euro 2020 qualification.

Jadon Sancho has the confidence as well as maturity to press for a regular England start at the age of 19, says boss Gareth Southgate

Three Lions boss Southgate said: “He’s not a player we’re looking to hold back. He’s provided real competition.

“Because of where he plays his club football, he still goes under the radar a little bit in terms of the quality of his performances and the level he’s playing at every week.”

Marcus Rashford is likely to make way for Sancho to win his eighth cap.

Southgate added: “He’s confident in his own ability.

“He works extremely hard without the ball.

“He’s very diligent in his work as well as the fact that he’s exciting in his ability to beat people.

‘VERY, VERY EXCITING’

“His decision-making running at speed is good and he’s able to find a pass — and the right selection of pass — more often than not.”

Jordan Henderson was also raving about Sancho.

The midfielder, 29, said: “He’s very, very exciting.

“As a fan, I’m sure you want to watch someone like Sancho.

“He wants to get on the ball, he’s quite intelligent for one so young, his movement is really good, he’s got good end product and goals assists. He is improving all of the time.”

Sancho will be up front with Harry Kane and Raheem Sterling tonight.

But despite Kane’s hat-trick against Bulgaria on Saturday, Southgate insists he is not untouchable.

Gareth Southgate says England fans should be hugely excited by our young players

He added: “I don’t think you can have a player who is undroppable as this is a dangerous route for any team and not healthy for the individual player.”

Full-backs Ben Chilwell and Trent Alexander-Arnold will replace Danny Rose and Kieran Trippier.

The Balkan minnows are second in Group A and just a point behind leaders England, who have played one game less.
