The Denmark VS Finland Euro 2020 match was postponed earlier this evening after 29-year-old Christian Eriksen collapsed just before half time. The footballer was seen receiving CPR as his team mates rallied around him. The Danish sportsman is currently in hospital and in a stable condition.
While his condition was still unknown, Alex Scott, 36, struggled to fight back tears as she discussed the incident with her fellow pundits.
Gary Lineker began by telling viewers they were hoping to bring a follow up of good news about the ill-stricken footballer.
He then turned his co-star and said: “Alex, I mean, it’s very difficult to know what to say isn’t it, except let’s hope he’s okay.”
Appearing teary, she replied: “I’m already getting emotional.
“Tell your closest ones that you love them at every opportunity.”
A third added: “Credit to Gary Lineker, Alex Scott and the rest of the studio, that must have been incredibly hard to be on air and they were measured and well spoken.”
Elsewhere this evening, Gary was forced to apologise after many viewers complained about the distressing footage of Eriksen receiving medical help.
He said: “I understand some of you would have been upset with some of the images shown (we were too). Obviously these were the host pictures and out of our control.
“They should have stayed on a wide [shot] of the stadium. Apologies.”
Taking to Twitter, he told his followers he was praying for the footballer to recover.
He added: “I don’t know about you but we’ve had an incredibly emotional hour in our house.
“We watched it as a family & the kids have been asking so many questions & been desperate to know he’s ok.
“We’ve explained that it’s a long road ahead but it’s amazing to be able to share good news.”
The ex Football Focus star went on to praise Eriksen’s “inspiring” team mates for shielding him away from the cameras.
