Emmerdale star Bhasker Patel rocked with two heartbreaking family tragedies in one week

Emmerdale actor Bhasker Patel has been rocked by two family tragedies in one week after losing both his mum and mother-in-law. The 68-year-old took to Instagram on Friday to tell his 21,000 followers that his mother-in-law Cynthia had died.

Alongside a picture of the pair having a drink together, he penned: “Cynthia 1932-2024. A wonderful mother-in-law.” As if things couldn’t get worse for the ITV star, Bhasker took to the social media site again just a day later on Saturday to reveal the heartbreaking news that his mum had died.

He shared a series of pictures of his mum Shantaben from over the years and posted an emotional caption for her. The soap star wrote: “My wonderful Mother “Shantaben Dahyabhai Patel” 1929 – 2024. Miss you so much!”

Bhasker’s Emmerdale co-stars rushed to the comments section to share their love and support for him as he deals with his losses. Kevin Mathurin said: “Oh no, Bhasker. What a week! I am so sorry for your loss. Thoughts and prayers are going out to you and your family.

Amy Walsh expressed: “Awww I’m so sorry Bhasker,” with a red love heart emoji. Anthony Quinlan penned: “Sending love and thoughts to you and family mate.”

Natalie Anderson wrote: “Oh Bhasker I’m so sorry. Thinking of you and your lovely family and sending you so much love.”

While Brahmdeo Shannon Ramana added: “I’m so sorry for your loss Bhasker. Sending love to you and your family.”

The actor is best-known for his role as Rishi Sharma on Emmerdale, who he played for 12 years before bowing out last summer.

Bhasker’s character Rishi was killed-off after being found dead at the bottom of the stairs, leading his family to think it was a tragic fall.

However, suspicion arose after Rishi’s brother Amit (played by Anil Goutam) arrived in the Yorkshire Dales.

Viewers learnt that Amit was with Rishi when he fell down the stairs, but he chose to make a run for it incase people thought he had pushed him.

After leaving the show, the ITV star told Metro.co.uk: “I’ll miss working with the Emmerdale family, they are a great bunch to work with and I learnt a lot as well, it gives you a brilliant profile and when Rishi died, the response online made me cry!”
