Ed Sheeran was rumoured to be a mysterious new artist after artwork popped near to where the singer lives in Suffolk.

Shops and pubs close to his home have been getting the mystery art in the post from an artist calling themselves The Hat.

Other pieces of art have been donated to charities and businesses with residents waking up to them on their doorsteps.

One cafe called The Neathouse, which is near to where the musician lives, got a bust called Infection and a note that spoke about owner Vashti Mouncer’s work in the community.

A note along with the art tells them to ‘stay safe’ and directs them to a website called ‘Who is The Hat?’.

The main thing that has made people suspect the Shape Of You singer as being behind it all is the fact the colourful paintings – seemingly made by flicking different paints onto a coloured backdrop.

There is speculation that Ed Sheeran is the artist behind these paintings that have shown up in East Suffolk (Picture: Splash)

In the past Ed has posted similar looking artwork onto his Instagram account, with one snap showing the star sitting on the floor about to get to work with some black paint.

However his spokesperson has denied to Metro.co.uk that the Castle On The Hill singer is The Hat.

But that hasn’t stopped residents from speculating, with shop manager Sara Allerton – who found two paintings called Disquiet and Brexit – saying: ‘There’s been a lot of circulation among customers about whether it’s [Sheeran] or not. People talk.’

Metro.co.uk has contacted Ed’s publicist for comment.
