EastEnders New Year's episode to feature flashbacks to explosive Xmas special

EastEnders’ explosive Christmas Day episode was so good, they are doing it twice.

Soap chiefs have revealed their New Year’s Day 60 minute special will be a “flashback” to the events of last night.

Millions tuned into the BBC show to see desperate Martin Fowler (James Bye) agree to do one last job for The Mitchells.

They got him to shoot hunky Keanu Taylor (Danny Walters) after the truth finally came out that he was the father of both Phil’s wife Sharon’s and daughter Louise’s babies.

Also Mick Carter’s wife Linda (Kellie Bright) sent her family crazy after going missing on a heavy booze bender and landed in hospital, The Slaters were saved from eviction by “a mystery guardian angel” and Sheree Trueman (Suzette Llewellyn) appeared to be cheating on Patrick with someone called Isaac.

However, lots of details in these stories were deliberately been left out including how Linda’’s drunken antics actually land her in serious danger.

On New Year’s Day, the BBC soap will re-visit events of Christmas Day and fill in the gaps and leaving no stone unturned.

Bosses have promised it will provide some shockers for fans and also include some little nods to the show’s past for die hard fans.

EastEnders executive producer Jon Sen said: “We all agreed that Christmas is so good we wanted to do it twice!

“So this year the New Year’s Day episode will be a format-busting sixty minute episode taking us back to the beginning of Christmas Day to see the stories from different perspectives.

“As the episode unfolds, viewers will discover what really happened on that day, when new secrets were born and fresh alliances forged. I can’t wait to see how fans react.”

Senior executive producer Kate Oates said: “There are lots of unanswered questions from Christmas Day and some of them, the audience won’t even have realised have been raised until they watch.

“The flashback episode is built around lots of little clues and it will pay off really awesomely I think – the writers, directors and actors have done a brilliant job in just making it feel really clever and exciting.
