Drake has denied Lil Nas X a debut number one album, by pipping him to the post in the UK charts by just 500 chart sales.

Lil Nas X’s debut album Montero was one of the most eagerly anticipated records of the year, but it couldn’t quite reach the summit, as Drizzy’s album Certified Lover Boy rebounded on the charts.

The Canadian rapper’s sixth studio album fell to number three from the top spot last week, but has now reached number one again.

Montero lead on downloads between the two albums, but fell short by 500 chart sales to take the number two slot.

However, Lil Nas X, 22, can take solace in the songs from Montero leaping up the charts.

Industry Baby featuring Jack Harow has jumped six place to a new peak of number three, while album standout That’s What I Want is this week’s highest new entry at number 10.

Former number one Montero (Call Me By Your Name) has also been given a boost, jumping 47 places to number 16.

Elsewhere in the album charts, Olivia Rodrigo’s Sour continues to hang around in the top five at number three, with Doja Cat’s Planet Her and UK rapper Tion Wayne’s debut album Green With Envy rounding out the top five.

In the wider chart, K-pop band NCT 127 have achieved their first UK top 40 album with their record Sticker, which has entered at number 40.

Over on the singles chart, Ed Sheeran continues his reign, as Shivers racked up 6.1 million streams over the past week to nab a second week at number one.

His former number one Bad Habits sits at number five.

Elton John and Dua Lipa are at number two with Cold Heart (Pnau Remix), with Central Cee at number four with Obsessed With You.
