DragCon UK organisers have spoken out after upset fans branded the event a ‘shambles’ on social media, as they were ‘left to queue for hours’.

Ticket holders flocked to Twitter to blast the bash – being held at Olympia in London – claiming they were left outside, unable to get in.

A spokesperson for the event – which RuPaul and the Drag Race UK gang attended – has now explained they were forced to briefly halt the queues for health and safety purposes.

A statement shared with Metro.co.uk read: ‘Health and Safety officers had advised us to temporarily halt the queue entrances today for an hour due to clogging of the aisles and from there on out – we got everyone in as fast as possible under H&S’s watch.

‘We have met with the venue, security and H&S for tomorrow’s event and are confident that the same issues won’t arise. Thank you and we appreciate you.’

They also offered up information for those who wanted to get their money back, adding: ‘If your ticket wasn’t scanned and you would like to return you are welcome to use your ticket to come tomorrow.

‘If you can’t make tomorrow, refunds will be honoured – please emailhelp@rupaulsdragcon.com for further assistance.’

The statement comes after upset fans shared their experiences on social media, complaining of the queues.

‘#dragcon what a let down! We booked tickets 4 months ago we queued for 2 and a half hours and didn’t get in,’ one posted. ‘Thankfully we’re still having an amazing time cos we’re with friends but seriously!?

‘Standing out in the cold with hundreds of others. Not letting anyone in. Absolute shambles #dragcon,’ another said.

However, others seemed to have a blast at the first day of the event.

‘I know drag con has its faults, but damn I have had an amazing day today!!! @BluHydrangea_I as my absolute highlight though. Thank you for making today so special #dragcon,’ a follower celebrated.

While a Twitter user commented: ‘RuPauls DragCon UK day 1. Honestly one of the best days of my life and they are just as amazing in person as they are on TV!’

And a fan added: ‘Fabulous day at #DragCon. However my feet are killing me!’
