Dr Alex George has admitted he ‘sobbed’ after receiving a handwritten card from a young girl thanking the NHS for their bravery in working amid the coronavirus crisis.

The former Love Island star is among the doctors and nurses working on the frontline at UK hospitals to treat patients battling with the Covid-19 virus, which has claimed the lives of more than 1,000 people around the country.

Over the weekend, Dr Alex received a message of gratitude from a young child who drew a picture of him wearing his hospital scrubs on the front of a makeshift card.

‘This was made by a lovely little girl who wanted to say thank you to NHS staff for their fight against the coronavirus,’ he wrote in the Instagram caption.

‘Needless to say I have been sobbing away at how cute this is. We are in this together. Lets do this. Thank you little Emma this has made my day x [sic],’ he added.

Alex went on to reveal that he’s self-isolating alone to avoid potentially passing on the virus to his girlfriend Amelia Kabath, although he is currently healthy.

He also added in his Instagram stories: ‘Just wanted to say to anyone in the NHS or otherwise that’s self-isolating alone. You are not alone. We are in this together.’

It comes just days after the A&E doctor called for free parking for NHS staff members as the pandemic continues.

‘Controversial but maybe this is a good time for hospital car parks to be free for NHS staff? Retweet if you agree,’ he wrote on Twitter.

Recently car park management company NCP offered free parking to NHS staff in over 150 car parks across the UK.

Alex became a household name through his stint in the villa in 2018. He has since become a TV star and is using his medical knowledge to answer questions his fans may have about the virus.

He still takes shifts at Lewisham hospital, and his zero-hour contract means he can still continue his newfound TV career.
