Dolly Parton, Julianne Hough call out fans to make song their own with #JoleneChallenge

Attention “Jolene” fans: Dolly Parton is begging of you not to take her man, but instead to take a little piece of the song for your own.

The “Jolene” songstress has issued a social media challenge ahead of her Netflix show “Heartstrings,” out Nov. 22.

In a video posted to Netflix’s TikTok and Parton’s Twitter Friday, Julianne Hough, who plays Jolene in an episode of “Dolly Parton’s Heartstrings,” asked fans to post themselves singing the 1973 tune as part of the #JoleneChallenge.

The country music star also made an appearance in the short video.

“Now, uh, what was that ticky tocky thing, whatever you call it?” she asked Hough.

“Oh, TikTok,” the former “Dancing With the Stars” pro replied.

“Oh, TikTok,” said 73-year-old Parton. “Well, I am an old dinosaur, but I’m not extinct yet!”

“Heartstrings” is a project Parton has wanted to do for a long time. The eight-episode series will tell the stories and inspirations behind some of her songs.

“So, I’ve been wanting to do this for years, to have some movies based on my songs I’ve written, so I’m really proud with how they’ve turned out,” Parton said in a March interview with the Knoxville News Sentinel, part of the USA TODAY Network. “We have some wonderful actors and actresses in it, and a chance to get a lot of my music in.”

She also will portray the character of Babe, a bar owner, in the “Jolene” episode.

“And so I’m all over it. Hopefully, people are going to enjoy it ’cause they turned out real well, I think.”
