Wine not: Giving up wine? If it’s the alcohol and calories of your favourite tipple that you’re trying to avoid, you might want to stash a low-alcohol option in the cupboard for those moments of weakness. German wine brand Black Tower has a Deliciously Light range — with only only 29 calories per glass and at 0.5 per cent ABV, it’s virtually alcohol-free. Try swapping popular Black Tower Smooth Red Wine, £5 at Asda, for the light version, £3.99 at Ocado.

Top choice: Ice cream is one of our top treats, but if you’ve given up the real deal this Lent, try swapping for Halo Top. The US favourite has a fraction of the sugar and calories of regular ice cream, plus it’s high in protein. Nab a tub for just £2.50, down from £3.50 at Iceland until Friday.

SAVING: £1

Choc change: Nothing will come close to chocolate but a low-calorie hot choc might tide you over when you get desperate — and won’t up your calorie count too much. Stock up on Tesco Low Fat Hot Chocolate, £1.60 — a cheaper alternative to cupboard favourite Options, £4.

SAVING: £2.40

No snack-cidents here: Crisps are an easy afternoon pick-me-up, so if you’ve given them up, you’ll need to find a savoury replacement. Salt and vinegar fans will find a decent stand-in with Snack A Jacks, two for £3 at Morrisons, usually £1.77 each — so pop a few packets in your desk drawer.
