Did Cherie Blair vote for Lib Dems in the European elections? SHOCK CLAIM

The shock claim came in a tweet from ITV’s political reporter Shehab Khan. He said: “Sources close to Cherie Blair, wife of former Prime Minister Tony Blair, tell me she voted for the Liberal Democrats at the European elections and not Labour. She is currently a Labour Party member.”

The news comes on the heels of Alastair Campbell – Labour member and Tony Blair’s former spin doctor – being expelled from the party for voting Lib Dem.

Shadow minister Dawn Butler said members who admitted voting for another party were “automatically excluded”.

She said: “It’s just part of the rule book. Everyone knows that.”

Labour lost ground in the European elections, coming in third with 14.1 percent after the Brexit Party and Lib Dems.

This is an 11.3 percent loss for Labour since the previous election, highlighting the party’s loss of support over Brexit policy and the ongoing anti-Semitism row.

After his expulsion, Mr Campbell said he believed other Labour MPs, councillors and peers voted in the same way as he did to try and make the leadership alter its position on Brexit.

Mrs Blair hasn’t publicly announced her vote, so is not at risk of expulsion at this stage.

A statement from the Labour Party said: “The way members vote is a private matter.

“But publicly declaring or encouraging support for another candidate or party is against the rules and is incompatible with party membership.”

Earlier this week Tony Blair said he voted Labour “without any enthusiasm”.
