Destiny 2 chooses the Season of the Chosen

The next Destiny 2 season is nearly upon us, and next up the game will enter the Season of the Chosen.

Destiny 2’s thirteenth content season will start from 9 February and brings with it a new matchmade activity dubbed Battlegrounds, along with the usual array of new gear and Strikes.

Battlegrounds is a three-player PvE activity that will set you up in “ritual combat against Caiatl’s chosen warriors” – Caiatl being the Cabal Empress, in case you’ve fallen as behind on your Destiny lore as I have.

The Devil’s Lair and Fallen S.A.B.E.R. strikes will also both return from the original Destiny at the start of the season, and later on they’ll be joined by a brand-new strike: Proving Grounds, “pitting humanity’s champions against the Cabal’s best to determine the fate of the Last City.”

In terms of gear, Season Pass owners will get instant access to the new Seasonal Praefectus Armour Set and the Exotic bow Ticuu’s Divination, which charges multiple Solar arrows that can track targets. Elsewhere, there’ll be over 25 Exotic, Legendary, and ritual weapons across the new season’s content.

Expect plenty of smaller tweaks across the season too, especially to weapon availability. Developer Bungie had begun ‘sunsetting’ older loot and weapons to make space for new content and keep loot drops relevant, but following some fan backlash it will bring some gear back into rotation – specifically some pieces from the paid-for areas of the Moon and the Dreaming City.

Destiny 2 remains free-to-play, though specific large expansions – the most recent of which was last November’s Beyond Light – must be paid for.
