Death In Paradise star Ralf Little defends Sheridan Smith after show backlash

Death In Paradise actor Ralf Little, 42, has jumped to Sheridan Smith’s defence after viewers joked she is “on TV more than the adverts”. On Saturday night, Sheridan made her debut as a judge on ITV’s new singing competition, Starstruck, where contestants transform into their favourite stars for the chance to win £50,000.

Some viewers took to Twitter to share their frustrations that three of Sheridan’s shows had aired in the space of a few weeks.

As well as Starstruck, ITV drama, No Return, and Channel 5’s The Teacher were also on screens recently.

Twitter user, Emily said: “Sheridan Smith is on TV more than the adverts.”

Lee joked: “The year is 2031. Sheridan Smith is now on every programme on British television. TV has been renamed Smithbox. The licence fee has been scrapped, but we all have to pay a Sheridan Tax instead.”

Dee said: “Seen more of Sheridan Smith than my family recently.”

And David quipped: “Hi, you’ve reached Sheridan Smith’s agent. I can’t take your call right now but, whoever you are, she’ll do it.”

After spotting the comments, it didn’t take long for Ralf to come to the defence of his Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps co-star.

The discussion began when fellow Starstruck judge, Jason Manford, condemned those who blasted Sheridan for being on TV so much.

“It will have taken her the best part of a year to film all of that.”

Jeremy Vine also offered his support, saying: “I agree with this. Sheridan Smith is unbelievably good at everything she does, and her range is remarkable.

“Haters, go and hate on someone more deserving. Go Sheridan.”

ITV viewers also criticised the new singing competition, as many compared it to a “Poundland Stars In Their Eyes”.

Mark said: “So this Starstruck is like Stars In Their Eyes without Matthew Kelly, just groups of people and no smoke.”

Linda tweeted: “Poundland Stars In Their Eyes, at least they had used better face prosthetics #Starstruck.”

However, many other viewers thoroughly enjoyed Starstruck, with Ann remarking: “Love this new #Starstruck on ITV. Not Stars In Their Eyes but similar vibes. My favourite is Freddie Mercury, the one wearing the red emulated him really well!”

Thomas added: “@Jason Manford easy watch Saturday night TV!! Yes, it’s a bit like Stars in their eyes…. But how can that be a bad thing?”

Starstruck continues next Saturday at 8.30pm on ITV and episodes can be watched on ITV Hub.
