Dan Walker: ‘You’re no Andrew Neil!’ BBC Breakfast in Twitter row for ‘lack of balls’

The presenter is an active social media user and regularly interacts with his fans and critics on Twitter. But after an interview with the Secretary of State for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy on the morning programme, one Twitter user took it upon himself to mock Dan. He wrote on Twitter accused Dan of failing to challenge her on a number of issues.

But Dan hit back, replying: “Watch it back.

“I literally challenged her on everything she said.”

The user said Dan failed to get a response from Ms Leadsom on the recent Yellowhammer scandal currently engulfing Parliament.

Dan defended the interview saying he did challenge the former Conservative leader candidate.

But unhappy, the Twitter user replied: “It’s one thing to challenge, it’s another to have the balls to confront lies with the truth.

“But I appreciate you have a reputation within the BBC to protect.

“You’re no Andrew Neil, that’s for sure.

“Good day.”

Dan then added: “Almost every assumption you’re making is incorrect.

“Have a nice day.”

Dan first took his place on the BBC Breakfast sofa as one of the main presenters after Bill Turnbull, 63, announced he was leaving following 15 years on the show.

His BBC Breakfast co-host is Louise Minchin.

In a recent interview with The Daily Mirror, Dan and Louise spoke out about their friendship.

Louise has claimed that they regularly help each other out of tight spots on air.

She said: “I think we’re both team players.

“And so many times Dan gets me out of trouble or I get him out of trouble.”

BBC Breakfast airs weekdays at 6am on BBC One.
