Dan Walker: BBC Breakfast host sparks furious Meghan Markle jet debate as Twitter rages

This week, the royal couple have come under heavy criticism for making four private flights in just 11 days as they jetted off across the globe. But after both Meghan and Harry pleaded with the public to do more for climate change, their actions were heavily scrutinised. Dan was asking the public for their views before the morning’s BBC Breakfast show.

The show’s special guest for the topic was Professor Kate Williams.

After her appearance she added: “Thanks for having me to talk on the Harry and Meghan flights.

“As I said, all royals take private planes and there’s hardly any coverage.

“But when Harry and Meghan do, there’s an outcry.”

Twitter users also waded in.

One said: “The point about them taking private flights is because Harry preaches about the footprint of Global warming

“I don’t think anyone would care if they were not so hypocritical.

“I think that is the point.”

Another wrote: “Difficult one isn’t it?

“To do the royal engagements then ok.

“But to bang on about climate change and jet around is just a tad hypocritical.

“I think it is deflecting from a much bigger royal story which won’t go away. The elephant in the room.”

BBC Breakfast airs weekdays at 6am on BBC One.
