Cy died in the early hours of Tuesday at the Royal Liverpool Hospital after falling ill with coronavirus symptoms one week ago.
Arthur Kerevan, 69, a friend of the star, said he had been showing coronavirus symptoms after playing a gig last weekend.
He said: “His wife and daughter were with him when he died, then it was confirmed he had the virus.”
Cy’s friend went on to say the star was a “high risk” to the virus because he had previous heart problems and diabetes.
