Crash Bandicoot 4 will finally continue the story 22 years later

Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time is official, and it’s been a long time coming. Though there have been Crash games in the interim, the new game is the true sequel to third entry in the series Crash Bandicoot: Warped, the PSOne game that dropped in 1998.

It means there are two clear decades and then some between the third and fourth installments in the series, and the new game will pick up a while after the events of Warped.

If you can remember back that far, Crash has just banished pesky trio Neo Cortex, Dr N. Tropy (still the best name in video games, don’t @ us) and Uka Uka to a faraway planet. Obviously, they’ve escaped.

It’s About Time is a collaboration between Activistion, Blizzard Inc. and developer Toys for Bob, the latter who so successfully ported the original Crash Bandicoot trilogy to the Switch in 2018. As the title suggest, there’s a big concentration on bending the rules of time such as in the new Quantum Masks power up.

Crash will be able to do new skills like wall run and rail grind, mainstays of modern platformers that were beyond the poor fella back in the 90s. If you want to check out a gameplay video, Activision let musician Quavo be the first to play and preview the new game on his Instagram, because the internet.

Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time is out on 2 October for PS4 and Xbox One for £59.99/$59.99
