Country Mile episode 4: Dolly Parton says ‘I got enough stories to last a lifetime’

“It’s been a long year, and I’m about sick of Dolly Parton,” Parton quipped Saturday backstage at the Grand Ole Opry House.

Parton capped the Opry’s Dolly week with two performances Saturday night at the Grand Ole Opry. Before she performed, the East Tennessee native sat down with The Tennessean’s Country Mile podcast to chat about her 2019, which might as well be renamed The Year of Dolly Parton.

“It has been a great year, but I’ve had a lot of good years,” Parton said. “I’m just grateful for all of it. Who knows when you’re starting out how it’s going to turn out.”

Since February, Parton has been honored by MusiCares and the Recording Academy. She’s worked on multiple Netflix movies, a Hallmark Christmas movie and completed taping this week for her television special Nov. 26 on NBC, “Dolly Parton: 50 Years at The Grand Ole Opry.” On Nov. 13, she’ll co-host the CMA Awards with Carrie Underwood and Reba McEntire.

“I bet you we’ll be trying to outdress each other. We’ll have to get together and coordinate our outfits and make sure we clash with our colors. I’m going to be Dolly – whatever that does,” she said.

Parton also talked about her plans for the holidays, the Grand Ole Opry, her future and more.

That means more songs, more stories and possibly some turkey cookies at Thanksgiving.
