Eminem is showing gratitude for healthcare workers in Detroit by donating cups of pasta labelled “Mom’s Spaghetti”.
The rapper’s home city has more coronavirus fatalities per capita than any US city except New York.
Eminem has also labelled the packages with the words: “Thank you frontline caregivers”.
Eminem — real name Marshall Mathers — first used the term “Mom’s Spaghetti” in the Oscar-winning song “Lose Yourself” taken from his semi-autobiographical film 8 Mile.
In the track, Eminem raps: “There’s vomit on his sweater already/ Mom’s spaghetti”.
The line became a fan favourite as well as a meme. In 2017, Eminem opened up a pop-up pasta restaurant called Mom’s Spaghetti. The following year brought the restaurant to Coachella.
Eminem is one of many celebrities using his resources for pandemic relief.
Rihanna has been donating resources to New York hospitals. Taylor Swift has sent $3,000 (roughly £2,500) each to fans who have complained about their financial burdens. While Ariana Grande has been transferring between $500 and $1,000 (up to £830) to more than 20 fans using the popular money transfer app Venmo.
