She revealed she felt like co-star Bhavna Limbachia was breaking up with her when she told her she had decided to quit the soap, and she kept crying as the end approached.

Rana was killed on Wednesday night when she was crushed in the factory roof collapse.

But for Faye the scenes were tough to film telling the Daily Star: “It was so hard keeping it all secret and when it came to those final scenes I cried real tears. I had no voice the next day.”

Faye added: “At one point I was actually retching because I was crying so much.”

She added: “The responsibility Bhavna and I have had since day one to do this love story, and to do it with truth and honestly and with a lot of heart, has been one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to do.

“I am so worried for the Kana fans because I love them. I need them to know that we are just as sad as them to say goodbye to that couple. It felt like Bhavna was actually breaking up with me.”

And she’s not done with crying now.

Faye also revealed how Kate will be completely devastated by Rana’s death and all the drama that’s yet to come.

She said: “There’s going to be lots of tears.

“You can’t just get over something like this. Rana was the love of her life. These two were meant to be and the writing is just incredible.”

And she’s going to help Imran get revenge on her own sister Carla, who he blames for the death.

“Imran’s definitely out for revenge,” she said adding: “Kate doesn’t believe it because she’s her sister but he blames her and sets about trying to piece the puzzle together.”

* Coronation Street continues on Wednesday night at 7.30pm
