Coronation Street spoilers: 'NO IDEA!' Viewers confused over character's bizarre job twist

Carla (played by Alison King) ha been gripped by paranoia since the tragic Underworld factory collapse on Coronation Street a few weeks ago left Weatherfield favourite Rana Habeeb (Bhavna Limbachia) dead.

As it has become common knowledge on the ITV soap factory boss Carla knew the premises were unsafe and the roof needed extensive work, many of her loved ones and neighbours have turned against her.

None more so than Alya Nazir (Sair Khan) who pretended to be Rana to spook Carla, and she succeeded as Peter (Chris Gascoyne) realised in tonight’s episode his lover still believed the dead character was still alive.

After talking Carla around into getting some help, it was Peter’s former lover Torah Battersby (Georgia Taylor) who offered Carla some professional advice as she is a trained Counsellor at the GP surgery.

However, viewers at home didn’t realise the former Rovers Return landlady had such a job and took to social media to enquire how Toyah’s job role had gone unnoticed until now.

One viewer wrote on Twitter: “I had NO IDEA Toyah had a medical background and worked in the surgery. what’s her position? Corrie.”

Another posted: “Since when did Toyah train to be a psychiatric nurse, therapist or dr #corrie, whilst a third remarked: “When did Toyah become a qualified medic #corrie.”

A fourth commented: “When did Toyah start working there? #Corrie #coronationstreet,” as a fifth became concerned about Toyah’s practice.

After speaking with Carla after a short consultation, it became clear to Toyah the factory boss needed greater help then she could give, but told Peter briefly what the pair had been speaking about.

They wrote: “Am I missing something? Didn’t Toyah just tell Carla that what’s she saying is confidential and then as soon as she stepped out of the room she told Peter everything?”

When Toyah returned to the consultation room, Carla had broken out through the window, leaving Peter devastated as he became more concerned about his lover’s state of mind.

Later on in the episode, Toyah was seen helping Peter try to locate Carla asking the likes of Gary Windass (Mikey North) and David Platt (Jack P Shepherd) if they’d seen the troubled factory boss.

After an initial search by Peter, the police arrived at the Barlow household to question Carla further over the factory roof collapse, but Peter hit out in rage as he claimed they weren’t doing enough to find Carla.

However, Peter won’t step down his efforts as next week, he tries to get Carla’s father Johnny Connor (Richard Hawley) and sister Kate Connor (Faye Brookes) on board to help with the search.

Initially refusing to help her sister, Kate will come around to the idea as she becomes worried about Carla’s state of mind, but will her sudden change in mind be too late?

Elsewhere in Weatherfield, Gary’s problems with loan shark Rick Neelan (Greg Wood) were still playing on the builder’s mind.

After Rick trapped cafe worker Alex Warner (Liam Bairstow) in his scam, Gary pleaded with the youngster to pay the loan shark back as soon as possible.

However, it seems the actor believes his character could meet a grisly demise as Mikey North, 32, told The Sun: “I’ve always said, the number of Platts’ boyfriends and husbands that have died, it’s probably got to be me next, but I’ve had a good run!”

Hinting the loan shark could be Gary’s killer, Mikey continued: “I quite like the character Rick, the way he’s written, it’s almost like the likeable scary bad guy.

“He’s got some pretty decent one-liners, whereas Pat was pretty much bad through and through, so I think there’s a bit more to like about Rick, but I wouldn’t mess with him.”

Coronation Street continues Monday at 7.30pm on ITV.
