Cool ways to help you sleep in the heat that without the bank — plus win £50k in The Sun Raffle

NODDING off on a hot summer night can be hard – as you toss and turn trying to get comfortable.

But there are easy tricks you can try to get that prized kip. Here are just some . . .

How to get a cooler night's sleep with these tips and tricks

TREAT YOUR TOOTSIES: Feet are extra-sensitive to temperature because of their pulse points. Apply a cold compress, or dunk feet in cold water, before bed. I chill a hot-water bottle for a few hours. Poundstretcher’s are now £2.99 down from £1.99.

COTTON ON: When it comes to bedding and pyjamas, cotton is the most breathable fabric. With prices starting at £5.99, Dunelm’s sheets are among the cheapest I have found — especially when compared to John Lewis versions which start from £10.50. George at Asda has nightdresses from £6, while men’s shorts cost just £7.

SAVING: £4.51

SHEET DREAMS: Keep curtains and windows closed to block out the sun during the hottest parts of the day, but open them when the sun sets, and your bedrom will be cooler by the time you head to bed. Hanging a damp sheet in front of your bedroom window can cool any breeze there may be coming into the room.

COOL KIT: If you are really suffering with the sweltering nights, you can get cooling technology on the cheap. Aldi is selling a climate-control pillow set for £5.99 — almost half the price of Matalan’s £10 version. Or head to Amazon to get yourself a gel mattress topper for around £27, and pick up a fan from B&M for as little as £7.99.
SAVING: £4.01 on sleep set

GET READY FOR BEDDY-BYE-BYES: These habits will not cost a penny. Take a cold bath or shower before bed. Digesting food raises your temperature, so eat a big meal at lunch and have a lighter dinner in the evening. Plus, sweating in bed can cause dehydration, so drink a glass of water before hitting the pillow.
