The Global Esports Federation (GEF) has announced a partnership with educational institution Confetti Institute of Creative Technologies.

The partnership will see teams competing in the Commonwealth Esports Championships (CEC) train and take part in qualifying tournaments at Confetti’s Nottingham campus from August 1st-5th.

The qualifying tournaments will take place in Nottingham, UK, ahead of the CEC Finals at the International Convention Centre in Birmingham on August 6th-7th.

The Commonwealth Esports Championships is a pilot esports event taking place alongside the official 2022 Commonwealth Esports Games, which is also being hosted in Birmingham.

With support from accommodation provider UPP, the deal will see Confetti serve as GEF_House, acting as an accommodation and a community space for athletes. Confetti’s technical and crew support will also assist GEF’s esports partner FACEIT in providing broadcasting and live streams.

GEF’s Executive Director of Community and Administration, Mark Chay, has been named the Head of GEF_house. Mark, a two-time Commonwealth and Olympic Games athlete, will work together with the Confetti team to oversee athlete experience. Mark served as Executive Director of the inaugural Singapore 2021 Global Esports Games.

Without revealing further details, GEF and Confetti said this initial collaboration over the course of the CEC is only the beginning of a long-term partnership vision for the two institutions.

Confetti made its entry into the esports market in 2020, becoming the first educational establishment in the UK to offer Esports Production qualifications at both college and degree levels.

The courses focus on esports, live events production, broadcasting, streaming, and content creation. Confetti is also set to launch its £5m Confetti X production studio in September.

Craig Chettle MBE, Founder and Chief Executive of Confetti, commented: “Esports is built around communities and our long-term partnership with GEF will enhance our global network, which will bring many wider economic and cultural benefits to Nottingham and the UK.

“With support from our parent company, Nottingham Trent University, we’re delighted to be hosting the CEC qualifiers on our Confetti campus in Nottingham. Our community of students will benefit hugely from this collaboration, and we can’t wait to welcome the participating teams from across the Commonwealth to Nottingham.”
