Comic Relief fans rave over Four Weddings and Bodyguard spoofs as £64m raised for charity

COMIC Relief viewers have hailed last night’s line-up as “brilliant” – after the charity fundraiser aired spoofs of Four Weddings And A Funeral, Bodyguard and Mamma Mia!.

Fans were overwhelmed as Lily James and Alicia Vikander married in emotional scenes on parody One Red Nose Day And A Wedding.

The 12-minute sketch, which came 25 years after the movie, saw Hugh Grant reprising his role as Charles as he walked his daughter, played by Lily, up the aisle.

One fan wrote: “Got a bit emotional at the Four Weddings and a Funeral sequel.”

Others said: “The four weddings and a funeral was so brilliant and relevant. Well done all” and simply: “Love, love, love.”

Bodyguard fans also got a treat in a crossover with police drama Line Of Duty, when Richard Madden‘s former co-star Keeley Hawes came back from the dead.

She was hidden in the boot of Richard’s car thanks to his new role protecting prime minister Joanna Lumley, before being discovered by Line of Duty star Adrian Dunbar in his search for “bent coppers”.

Viewers praised the sketch, with one joking: “God all those celebs that hiked up Kilimanjaro must be furious – Keeley Hawes just won #RedNoseDay just by sitting in a car.”

Another added: “This Line of Duty and Bodyguard cross over if the best. #rednoseday.”

A two-part Mamma Mia! sequel spoof also left viewers in hysterics, with Jennifer Saunders playing both Cher and Meryl Streep’s characters.
