Clara Amfo has remained coy about the rumours that she’s signed up for this year’s Strictly Come Dancing, stating she’s ‘just a fangirl’.

It was reported that Strictly bosses were keen for the BBC Radio 1 presenter to join the line-up for the 2020 series.

She might not need much persuading as Clara, 36, admits she’s the biggest ‘fangirl’ of the hit ballroom competition.

Speaking to Metro.co.uk, Clara teased: ‘It’s an amazing show and I’d be honoured if they asked me, I’m just a fan of the show.

‘I’ve got friends who’ve done it – Dev [Griffin] from Radio 1 did it and he was robbed. It’s such an amazing show but I’m just a fan.’

Clara, who visited the Strictly set last year, recalled: ‘Getting to see how it’s made is really interesting, the set design.

‘It’s like Formula One how they do it backstage. There’s a team rushing in and out and it becomes like one world to another. But I’m just a fangirl.’

Hopefully see you on the dancefloor, Clara.

This summer has looked a lot different for the DJ – she presented throwback highlights of Glastonbury festival in the empty fields of Worthy Farm last month due to the coronavirus pandemic. But flashback to this time last year and she was rubbing shoulders with the queen herself – Beyonce.

They met at The Lion King premiere in London and the pictures will live on forever, framed no doubt, in Clara’s living room.

‘She was absolutely lovely and told me that she liked my dress,’ Clara revealed of their unprecedented meeting.

‘She was like, “You look so beautiful”. I wasn’t going to chat to her but I thought, just go for it. She was genuinely really, really lovely and generous because I can’t imagine what it must be like to have that level of fame and recognition.’

Clara continued: ‘I grew up such a fan of Destiny’s Child and her solo work. I’ve been to every one of her major tours. A Beyonce show is like an experience so, to see the woman who I’ve seen command crowds of thousands…

‘To be in her presence with her arm around me was surreal and I don’t get starstruck that easily but with her it was different and yet she was so lovely and generous with her time.

‘She’s a class act. They say you shouldn’t meet your heroes but she lived up to everything I was expecting.’

Giving the rest of us mere mortals a little insight into what it’s like meeting the world’s biggest pop star, Clara dished: ‘And she smelt really good as well! She smelt of wealth and good decisions.’

When she’s not making friends with Beyonce, Clara is hanging out with another pop queen, Halsey.

The radio presenter has become Magnum ice cream’s UK ambassador for their #TrueToPleasure campaign, and sat down with Halsey for a one-on-one.

It’s safe to say, Clara now has a massive girl crush after interviewing the Without You singer several times.

‘Halsey is always someone I look forward to having on just because she’s genuine,’ the DJ admitted.

‘She’s in that handful of really popular artists that everyone knows and talks about and I’m sure there’s [pressure] to look perfect all the time, especially with social media. But she’s always struck me and I’ve always experienced her to be a very genuine person.

We really got into it and I really respect her. I like how she carries herself and interacts with her fans – I think that’s the thing I like the most outside of the music,’ she explained.

Clara herself has to take the rough with the smooth as one of BBC Radio 1’s most foremost presenters but, by the sounds of it, she pretty much takes it all in her stride.

‘My whole thing is about protecting my peace, man. That is absolutely my goal and I’ve never felt it harder,’ Clara explained.

She went on: ‘But for me, I maintain my peace and pleasure on social media by only following accounts that make me feel good. I don’t want to see anything that makes me feel that I’m not worthy or not good enough and I don’t think anybody should.

‘I don’t tolerate sadness in my spaces. Life is short but it’s also very long and I genuinely don’t have energy for anyone who hasn’t got good intentions for me. Protect your peace, protect your pleasure.’
