Chukka Umunna blasts Prince Andrew as 'complete disgrace' who 'should face FBI'

Chukka Umunna has blasted Prince Andrew as a “complete disgrace” and said his behaviour has threatened the institution of the monarchy itself.

The Liberal Democrats candidate appeared on today’s Good Morning Britain where he called out other politicians for not slating the prince on his friendship with dead paedophile Jeffrey Epstein.

When asked about Prince Andrew’s disastrous Newsnight interview, Chukka didn’t hold back as he described him as a “complete disgrace”.

He continued: “I cannot believe the interview that happened. I do not understand why public figures, particularly politicians, have been pulling their punches on this.

“Look, the monarchy continues to exist with consent and he has done more to undermine support and democratic consent, if you want to call it that, in the monarchy than any member of that family I think I have seen in my lifetime.

“He has let down the entire institution. I think the lack of self-awareness is breathtaking. He should go to the US, give evidence where needed and do the right thing because he’s done too many of the wrong things so far.

“I think unless you call these things out, all of the different institutions on which we depend are undermined.

“And I have to say, I’ve been quite surprised by how hesitant people have been because you’re talking about somebody who has spent time with a convicted paedophile.

“And decided to go and do that after this person served time.”

Piers Morgan then interjected: “And spent four days partying with him, a convicted paedophile, whilst claiming he was there to say goodbye to him”.

Mr Umunna continued: “There is no kind of middle way here. He hasn’t done the right thing and he needs to do the right thing.”

Meanwhile, the Daily Mirror revealed today how Buckingham Palace is bracing itself for more sordid allegations about  Prince Andrew  after it was revealed Virginia Giuffre has given an interview to BBC’s Panorama.

The 35-year-old is said to reiterate her claims he slept with her when she was just 17 after allegedly being trafficked from the US by the royal’s billionaire paedophile pal Jeffrey Epstein.

But she is believed to be furious that her interview, filmed three weeks before Andrew’s denials about having sex with Virginia on BBC Newsnight with Emily Maitlis last week, has not been aired

Gloria Allred, a lawyer for three of Epstein’s victims called on the duke to testify to the FBI under oath, after he denied any knowledge of the financier’s perverted behaviour.

Andrew has denied any wrongdoing and insists he has never met Virginia, despite a picture showing him with his arm around her at the London flat of British socialite Ghislaine Maxwell.

The prince has suggested the photo was doctored. He met Epstein in 1999 but kept on seeing him after the tycoon was jailed in 2008 for procuring a minor for sex, even staying at his home.

Epstein died earlier this year in a US prison while awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges.
