Christian Eriksen wanted to leave Tottenham this summer but was not interested in a move to Manchester United, according to reports.

The 27-year-old’s current contract expires at the end of the season, which means he could leave Spurs on a free transfer.

United were reportedly keen on signing Eriksen in the summer and it has been claimed that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer contacted the Denmark international to gauge his interest regarding a move to Old Trafford.

But Eriksen ended up stay at Spurs and will now be free to hold negotiations with teams outside of the Premier League from the start of January.

According to The Athletic, Tottenham received no offers for Eriksen in the summer, despite the midfielder being heavily linked with a move away.

And the report also claims that Eriksen had ‘no intention’ of joining United earlier this year.

United failed to sign a new midfielder and are looking to strengthen in the January transfer window.

But with Solskjaer’s side struggling to push for a top-four place, Eriksen could snub a switch to Old Trafford once again.

Meanwhile, Roy Keane believes Eriksen would not improve United’s midfield options.

Asked if he would sign the Spurs midfielder, Keane replied: ‘Not if I were the Manchester United manager.

‘I think he will get a move, he’s on a free.

‘But I don’t think he’d improve those teams and that’s the key for a club like Manchester United who are trying to close the gap.

‘He won’t make Man United better, but having said that, Man United bought Fred.’
