They’ve been building their dream $9million mega-mansion in Byron Bay for two years.

And construction on Chris Hemsworth and Elsa Pataky’s sprawling property is nearing completion, with new aerial photos showing a 50-metre rooftop infinity pool and a spa with ocean views taking shape.

The multi-level pad, which sits on 4.2 hectares at Broken Head and overlooks the Seven Mile Beach, also boasts intricate landscaping and lush palm trees dotted around.

The Thor actor, 35, and Spanish model and actress, 45, are expected to move their young family in – India Rose, six, and twin sons Tristan and Sasha, four.

It’s been claimed the property will feature a gym, steam room, media room and game room, as well as six bedrooms and state-of-the-art appliances.

Builders have worked hard to bring Chris and Elsa’s vision of a dream home to life, since getting approved for the knockdown-rebuild by Byron Shire Council in March 2017.

The couple, who left California for Byron in 2015, have brought Hollywood-style living to the quiet coastal town – which has garnered mixed reactions from locals.

Some critics previously condemned the construction in a Byron Bay community group on Facebook.

‘Looks like the new Woolies,’ one user wrote. Another user sarcastically added: ‘Way to live minimally. I wonder what the environmental footprint is like.’

However, real estate expert Nerida Conisbee told news.com.au in January that the famous family are inadvertently boosting the local economy by attracting buyers to the area.

‘There’s always been a lot of celebrities who have loved living up in that area but they (the Hemsworths) are very high-profile and they are giving the area a very high profile as well,’ she said.

‘This would definitely be pushing Byron Bay up the list in terms of international visibility.’

The publication reports that, ‘the median property price in Byron Bay recently reached $1.75million’ which is higher than many prices in Sydney.

In September last year, an insider told Woman’s Day that the couple feel disheartened by all the negativity after the property was likened to a ‘prison’ and a ‘hospital’ due to it’s size.

‘All the negativity is a real headache for Chris and Elsa because the last thing they want is to upset their neighbours,’ a source told Woman’s Day.

‘They insist they went into this with every good intention, and they’re not disturbing anybody by building themselves a dream home in the region they both love.

‘It’s a shame from their point of view that people are giving them a hard time and choosing to be negative, but they’re going full-steam ahead and can’t wait for it to be finished.’
