Members of Chelsea’s first team squad are now openly questioning Frank Lampard’s tactics after a poor run of form that has seen the club win just one of their last seven matches.

The Blues were resoundingly beaten 3-1 by Manchester City at Stamford Bridge on Sunday, leaving Lampard’s side in eighth place after 17 matches played.

That leaves the club with just one win in their last five league matches and reports have circulated that Roman Abramovich is already considering sacking Lampard.

Andriy Shevchenko, Thomas Tuchel and Max Allegri have all been linked with replacing Lampard, though the former England midfielder is likely to be given at least the next three matches to turn things around.

Nevertheless, it is clear that the expectation levels have been raised on Lampard since last season and following his £220million spending spree.

The Boxing Day defeat against Arsenal was particularly hurtful, with Lampard turning on his squad by asking them to take more responsibility for their poor performances.

However, ESPN claim members of Chelsea’s squad are openly questioning Lampard’s tactics and inconsistent team selections.

Lampard played Timo Werner as his central striker against City on Sunday but he’s switched between Tammy Abraham and Olivier Giroud for the majority of the season,

In midfield, the likes of Mateo Kovacic and Jorginho have had spells in the side, while Lampard has failed to settle on a preferred set of wingers.

Lampard has defended his use of Kai Havertz – the £72m signing from Bayer Leverkusen – and says the German has struggled with the after-effects of testing positive for coronavirus.

However, the fact that few of his big-money signings have performed well this term has piled the pressure on Lampard and it’s now claimed his own squad are questioning his management.
