Celebrity MasterChef 2019: Greg Wallace makes contestant cry after 'worrying' semi-final

Celebrity MasterChef returned at an earlier time of 7pm tonight but the cookery competition still brought the drama as the semi-finalists were tasked with impressing Yotam Ottolenghi. For Vicki Pattinson, it all got too much and she cried in front of the hosts and guest.

“Today we have invited a very special guest,” John Torode told the six remaining celebrity contestants.

“Actually a culinary genius and each one of you is going to be cooking one of his absolutely fantastic dishes.”

Each cook was given a different recipe by Yotam, all of them being one of his favourite dishes.

He told them: “They are slightly complicated. Make sure you read the recipe and know it really well because there’s things that will be a little left field there, things you may have not seen before. If you follow it, the result can be mind-blowi

They were each given an hour and 30 minutes to produce their plates.

For original Geordie Shore star Vicki, she was left confused by her ingredients to begin with.

“I have never seen a chicken’s liver before! Do I want to cook that? Surely not! That looks like something you’d throw away,” she remarked.

She was attempting to create a  Jewish favourite of pan-fried chicken livers served in a classic red wine jus, with toasted brioche and gazed cherries.

On their rounds, Gregg Wallace asked Vicki: “Livers and cherries, something you have regularly?”

“I eager to try these chicken livers,” Gregg commented. He then cut open a piece of meat and said: “Get in there! Back of the net!” In reference to the tender pink inside proving Vicki had cooked them to perfection.

Those watching at home saw the reality star jump up and down for joy before throwing her arms around Yotam in pure delight.

“I’ve never had such a hug!” The guest judge replied in jest.

“I was worried about the saltiness, but it’s really good. The cherries and the way the sauce is soaked into the brioche and the radicchio is nice and charred on the outside. I can’t fault it,” Yotam said.

After the overwhelmingly good feedback, Vickie explained: “I got a bit stressed didn’t I? And I didn’t think I was going to be able to do it, and you have said really nice things and I’m sorry I’m being a big girl.

“I’m just tired today and I appreciate you saying nice stuff and all the help you’ve given us so far,” she added as she wiped away the tears.

Vicki wasn’t the only one to get emotional as Razor also showed his vulnerable side.

“You have perfectly understood what this pudding should be and it’s delicious!” Gregg commented about his dish.

“You bringing that enormous fruity pavlova to this table is going to be a moment I will cherish for a long, long time because that was a statement.”

“I think I’m happiest when I’m cooking. To see people like yourselves like it, I’m nearly tearing up,” he explained.

Celebrity MasterChef returns Friday night at 9pm on BBC One.
