However, Strictly did not end up finishing until almost five minutes later  – enraging viewers.

One tweeted: “Come on, come on @BBCOne – it’s 20.50 #Casualty Time…!!!!

“Get off Strictly Come Dancing for f***’s sake!”

Another sniped: “Coming up next, Casualty. Approximately half an hour after I was expecting.”

A third moaned: “Come on, important business to be attending too!”

One Casualty fan said of Strictly: “Can somebody please stop them talking!”

This wasn’t the only live TV mishap that the dance programme faced tonight, with host Tess Daly forced to apologise when the show was hit with technical difficulties.

While Tess and her co-host, Claudia Winkleman made their way down the stairs to introduce the programme, viewers’ screens repeatedly cut to black as sound faded.

The difficulties happened again when the 15 celebrities were welcomed onto the dance floor.

Thankfully the glitches occurred before the first couple, Saffron Barker and AJ Pritchard, hit the dancefloor and did not have too much of an impact on fans’ viewing experiences.

After Saffron and AJ’s smouldering Cha-Cha-Cha, Tess took a moment to address the problems before going over to the judges for their comments.

She said: “We do apologise to any viewers who may have experienced any transmission problems.”

The star added: “We are very sorry, but we are a live show.”

Fans at home flocked to Twitter to criticise the blunder, with one retorting: “Tess blaming glitches on being live, we are in 2019 now not the 1960s.”
