Carole King shares video of special version of So Far Away for coronavirus lockdown

Carole King has shared a new version of her classic song “So Far Away” while on lockdown due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The artist posted a video of herself performing the updated tune on her Facebook page on Monday.

“Hi, how are you doing? I just want to say that I hope you and your family are well and that you all stay well,” she tells her fans in the clip.

“And I wish the same for all the medical professional that are doing such important and difficult work.

“And also to thank all the people who keep the groceries coming and the trash being picked up.

“There are just so many things that I don’t even know about, but I’m not taking it for granted, none of it.

“So thank you all, and thank you all for staying in and making sure that we do our part to help this crisis go away. And may it be soon.”

King then explains that she has set up a “little area” in her house where she would be able to play an excerpt from “So Far Away” in front of the camera, after adapting the tune to “the circumstances we’re in”.

She begins singing “So Far Away”, with the line “Doesn’t anybody stay in one place any more?” changed to “Everybody has to stay in one place anymore” – a clear reference to the social distancing and confinement measures needed to slow the spread of coronavirus.

The rest of the lyrics remain untouched, but seem surprisingly adapted to the current context, with lines such as ”It would be so fine to see your face at my door”, which might resonate with those feeling lonely while confined away from their loved ones.
