Carol Vorderman: Countdown star reveals bizarre nickname she likes being called

Carol Vorderman, 58, was back on the airwaves last weekend, presenting BBC Radio Wales alongside Nathan Sussex, who played Buster in Hollyoaks.

The two got chatting about nicknames and the former Countdown legend spilled on what she loves to be called.

She said to her co-star: “Do you know what I really like being called?”

“Cazza,” Carol responded.

Nathan repeated: “Cazza? You can call me anything you want Cazza. Call me the Dame.”

Bursting out laughing, Carol went on: “The Dame and Cazza are with you on BBC Radio Wales for the next two hours, otherwise called Nathan Sussex and Carol Vorderman.”

Eager to find more out about her co-star, Carol quizzed: “What do people call you actually?”

The soap star replied: “I get called Nate, Leyton, which is not my name, Natalie…”

Carol couldn’t stop laughing at his answers, to which she added: “I’ve had all sorts all over the years.”

Revealing more about her own nicknames, Carol explained: “I’ve had Carol Vodafone, Miss Borderline…”

“A producer I used to work with used to come up with a new name every week for me,” Carol recalled.

“My favourite one for me was, him shouting down my ear piece, ‘Oi can’t afford a man’.”

Elsewhere, Carol took to Twitter yesterday to say she was heartbroken after an event was cancelled in Bristol due to awful weather conditions.

The maths whizz revealed how upset she was that the windy weather meant hot air balloons were unable to make mass ascents.

She wrote: “My heart breaks for the wonderful people of Bristol @bristolballoon Fiesta.

“The city is full but crazy winds and heavy rain have stopped the balloons going up so far.”

“We’re all crossing fingers for tonight’s mass ascent. It’s one of the most stunning things to see anywhere,” Carol added.

Many ascents were cancelled on Friday with the event being completely shut off on Saturday.

On Sunday, the planned evening ascent was also cancelled.

Carol Vorderman will be back on BBC Radio Wales on Saturday from 11.30am.
