Carol Kirkwood: BBC Breakfast star reacts as viewer points out awkward blunder on show

BBC Breakfast star Carol Kirkwood, 57, warned viewers that temperatures will plummet in some areas due to the incoming weather from the Atlantic barrels. She added that other areas across the country will be in double digits.

But, after her forecast, a viewer pointed out that a “ruffled sound” could be heard during her live segment.

One of her Twitter followers commented: “There was some ruffled sound when you presented the first weather forecast this morning.

“Probably your mike moving on your blouse.”(sic)

The weather presenter told the Twitter user that she was aware of the sound disruption.

In view of her 166,000 followers, she replied: “You are absolutely right!

“Hopefully a little bit of cardboard (ah! the technology!) behind the mic will sort it for my next broadcast) x.”(sic)

In a series of tweets, the former Strictly Come Dancing star also gave further details about the latest temperatures.

She tweeted: “In brief, today we are looking at a blustery day with sunshine and showers – some of which will be heavy with hail and thunder – and some hill snow! Temperatures down on yesterday with max temps between 5-9 C.”

She commented: “Tomorrow’s maximum temperatures! Brisk wind ahead of rain @BBCbreakfast xxx.”

Elsewhere on Twitter, Carol’s co-star Sally Nugent hit back at a viewer who complained about a phrase she said on the show yesterday.

During the show, Sally joked that Aberdeen in Scotland is “too far” to go for the upcoming BBC Sports Personality Of The Year Awards.

The Twitter user wrote: “BBC sports personality of the year is mentioned on BBC breakfast by @sallynugent twice as being far away.

“It is Aberdeen not the moon. Even @mrdanwalker corrected you. Please stop saying it. #notthatfar.”

Sally responded to the Twitter user, writing: “Sorry. It was actually a joke. Also it is quite a long way on a bike.”

The host went on to defend her co-star Dan Walker, who was accused of being “patronising” by another viewer.

The duo caught up with Rick Hopcroft, a member of the New Zealand Red Cross team, to discuss the country’s volcano tragedy.

After this, Dan shared facts about the ordeal in a discussion with Sally.

They commented: “Oh good grief, @mrdanwalker is mansplaining an interview with a survivor of the NZ eruption to @sallynugent who was sitting next to him on the @BBCBreakfast sofa & watched the same footage.
