Carine Roitfield and Derek Blasberg to host supermodel-studded virtual catwalk show in aid of Covid-19

Fashion events the world over have been cancelled and postponed thanks to Covid-19.

But for those of you craving the glamour and spectacle of a runway show fear not, for Carine Roitfield has big plans for your Friday night viewing pleasure.

The former editor-in-chief of Vogue Paris is taking the second instalment of her celebrity catwalk concept, CR Runway, online this week (the first took place in Florence last year) with star appearances from the likes of Kim Kardashian West, Hailey Bieber, Karlie Kloss, Adriana Lima, Ashley Graham, Diane von Fürstenberg, Virgil Abloh, Alexander Wang and Karolina Kurkova.

The 30-minute digital fashion extravaganza, called ‘Fashion unites’, will be directed by Fabien Constant and hosted by Derek Blasberg, YouTube’s Head of Fashion and Beauty, and will be available to stream worldwide exclusively via YouTube on Friday, May 1 at 9pm GMT.

The models will be self-filming their walks, wearing creations pulled from their personal wardrobes and styled by Roitfield’s team.

The event has been organised in partnership with amfAR, with whom Roitfield has a longstanding relationship, to raise money for the amFar Fund to Fight COVID-19, an initiative through which amFAR will provide its resources and top infectious disease experts to support the development of coronavirus treatments.

“As we face times of great uncertainty, our support for one another is more important than ever. Embracing fashion as the creative expression through which to support the health and safety of our global communities, we hope this show can offer a small moment of hope, inspiration, and uplifting connection. A modest contribution as our world unites to collectively weather the storm of this pandemic together,” says Roitfeld.

Everyone taking part in the event has contributed their time pro-bono, and Carine Roitfield and several senior team members have made personal donations to the cause.

‘Fashion Unites’ will be streamed worldwide on Friday May 1 at 9pm GMT via YouTube. For more information, visit rrunwayxamfar.org
