Finally, Bruce Springsteen is back on tour (sort of), but fans will have to catch his Western Stars concert on the big screen instead of the big stage.

Knowing that he wasn’t about to embark on another tour, the legendary rocker explained that he opted to film his latest concert instead so that his loyal followers wouldn’t miss out.

Speaking at the London Film Festival on Friday, the 70-year-old revealed how his fans even inspired a whole script to be written for the new flick.

He said: ‘I knew I wasn’t going to tour, so I said maybe if I don’t tour, maybe we could just film a concert.

‘So that was basically the idea. And we filmed the concert and that’s what we had.

‘But I said it’s new music and so how am I going to introduce people to the internal life of the songs of songs they haven’t heard yet. So that led to the script.’

Teaming up with his long-time collaborator and co-directer Thom Zimny, Bruce’s film Western Stars is a cinematic take on his nineteenth studio album by the same name.

Weaving in the themes of love, loss, loneliness and family, the movie also plays as Bruce’s directorial debut as well as being his first studio album in five years.

Known for his hair-raising performances, the E Street frontman shows that he’s still got it at 70 and even steps it up a notch by performing with a 30-piece orchestra and full band.

And what would any good film be without a little romance, we hear you say? Well grab the tissues Springsteeners cause love is the main ingredient to Bruce’s new flick he says.

Western Stars also features rediscovered footage of the star’s doting romance with wife Patti Scialfa who he married in 1991 and credits as being the core of the film.

Not only have the pair been married for three decades but Patti has been a big part of Springsteen’s rock’n’roll journey.

Speaking at the launch of the movie, he explained: ‘We’ve been together for a long time, 30 years, so that’s a lot of experience around the one little microphone.

‘So we bring all of that the minute we lean in. Oh my Lord, there’s the whole 30 years of emotional life together between us.

‘She’s wonderful. If you dig deep down into the centre of the film, she’s there.’

Western Stars is due for cinematic release on October 28.
