Britney Spears checks into mental health facility after dad's illness


The pop superstar checked herself into the unnamed facility last week.

She is believed to be staying there for 30 days.

A source close to the family told People: “Britney just needed to focus on herself.

“Her dad being sick has taken a toll on her.

“He nearly died and actually had another surgery a few weeks ago. He’s not doing well.

“They’re so close and it has been a lot.”

The insider added that there is nothing “dramatic” going on with the music icon, simply saying she needs time to focus on herself.

As reports of Britney’s decision to seek professional support broke, the Work Bitch singer took to Instagram to share a telling quote.

The upload read: “Fall in love with taking care of yourself. Mind. Body. Spirit.”

Alongside the image, Britney added: “We all need to take time for a little ‘me time’.”

In January this year Britney cancelled her second Las Vegas residency, Domination, due to her father undergoing a serious operation.

In a statment shared on Instagram, the mum of two said: “I am dedicating my focus and energy to care for my family.

“We have a very special relationship and I want to be with my family at this time just like they have always been there for me.”

She added: “A couple of months ago, my father was hospitalised and almost died.

“We’re all so grateful that he came out of it alive, but he still has a long road ahead of him.

“I had to make the difficult decision to put my full focus and energy on my family at this time. I hope you can all understand.”
